Patient Handout: Understanding Bosutinib (Bosulif)

What is Bosutinib?

Bosutinib (brand name: Bosulif) is a prescription medication used to treat certain types of blood cancers, including:

  • Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) in adults with Philadelphia chromosome-positive (Ph+ CML)

Bosutinib is a tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) that works by blocking specific proteins in cancer cells, slowing their growth or causing them to die.

How to Take Bosutinib

  1. Dosage: Take Bosutinib exactly as prescribed by your doctor. The dose may vary depending on your condition and response to treatment.
  2. With Food: Always take Bosutinib with food to improve absorption and reduce the risk of stomach upset.
  3. Swallow Whole: Swallow the tablet whole; do not crush, chew, or split it.
  4. Missed Dose: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is close to your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double up.
  5. Storage: Store Bosutinib at room temperature in its original container, away from moisture and heat.
