What is Dasatinib?

Dasatinib (brand name: Sprycel) is a prescription medication used to treat certain types of blood cancers, including:

  • Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) in adults and children
  • Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) with Philadelphia chromosome-positive (Ph+ ALL)

Dasatinib is a type of targeted therapy known as a tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI). It works by blocking proteins that promote the growth of cancer cells.

How to Take Dasatinib

  1. Dosage: Take Dasatinib exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Dosage may vary based on your condition and response to treatment.
  2. With or Without Food: Dasatinib can be taken with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole; do not crush, chew, or break it.
  3. Timing: Take the medication at the same time each day to maintain consistent levels in your body.
  4. Missed Dose: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is close to your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double up.
  5. Storage: Store Dasatinib at room temperature in its original container, away from moisture and heat.

Potential Side Effects

  • Swelling (edema), especially in the hands, feet, or around the eyes
