Patient Handout: Understanding Imkeldi (Imatinib Oral Solution)
What is Imkeldi?
Imkeldi is the first FDA-approved oral liquid formulation of imatinib, designed to treat certain types of cancers, including:
- Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML)
- Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL)
- Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST)
Imkeldi works by targeting specific proteins in cancer cells, slowing their growth or causing them to die. The oral liquid solution provides an alternative for patients who have difficulty swallowing tablets.
How to Take Imkeldi
- Dosage: Follow your doctor’s instructions for dosage and timing. Dosages may vary based on your specific condition and weight.
- Measurement: Use the syringe or measuring device provided with the medication to ensure accurate dosing. Do not use household spoons.
- With Food: Always take Imkeldi with a meal and a large glass of water to minimize the risk of stomach upset.
- Missed Dose: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is close to your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double up.
- Storage: Store Imkeldi as directed, usually at room temperature. Keep it in its original container and away from light and moisture. Discard any unused medication after the expiration date.
